Status Vocabularies (the important ones)
Sample lifecycle: REQUESTED → COLLECTED → IN_TRANSIT → RECEIVED →
ACCEPTED/REJECTED → PREPARATION → READY_FOR_TEST → TESTING → QC_REVIEW →
TECHNICAL_REVIEW → APPROVED → REPORTED → RETAINED → DISPOSED
Result status: ENTERED → CALCULATED → VALIDATED → (QC_FAILED |
OUT_OF_SPECIFICATION | TECHNICAL_REVIEW) → APPROVED → SUPERSEDED
QC outcome: PENDING · PASS · WARNING · FAIL · INVESTIGATION_REQUIRED ·
ACCEPTED_WITH_JUSTIFICATION
Condition state: NORMAL · MONITOR · CAUTION · ALARM · CRITICAL · INVALID
— severity runs NORMAL … CRITICAL; CRITICAL assessments demand immediate
shutdown recommendations.
Nonconformance: OPEN → UNDER_INVESTIGATION → CORRECTIVE_ACTION →
VERIFICATION → CLOSED
Rules of Thumb
- A rejected receipt puts the sample at REJECTED and (where test validity is affected) raises a Nonconformance.
- A QC FAIL holds the whole batch's approvals until investigated, retested or accepted with justification.
- CRITICAL condition severity ⇒ IMMEDIATE_SHUTDOWN recommendation + maintenance notification; HIGH ⇒ INSPECT/PLAN_REPAIR with a target date.
- Approving a report locks its included results and marks the samples REPORTED; retention/storage follows.
- Uncalibrated equipment and expired analyst competencies block test batches (Phase 2 rule-engine enforcement — the data structures are here).
